✍🏾Relationship Building – Planting Seeds of Respect 🌱
Children are intuitive beings. They are fully aware when their teachers harbor negative feelings toward them, and kids don’t learn from teachers they don’t trust. 💔
They may listen and follow through to keep the peace, but they won’t thrive.
Authentic relationships are important.
Building healthy, authentic relationships is a must to create a safe and secure classroom environment. It anchors the bottom of my anchor chart for a reason; it’s the foundation of every successful classroom and the glue that links classroom management and play implementation together.
Why Relationships Matter 💡
Building Authentic relationships with your students leads to:
Increased Engagement: Kids are more willing to try hard things for teachers they feel connected to. 📝
Fewer Power Struggles: Solid relationships create safe environments and lower defiance. 🫶🏾
More Joy: A positive class culture benefits everyone (yes, even you!).❤️
3 Ways to Build Respect In The Classroom ✨
Begin these 3 steps today:
Learn What They Love 🎮
Acknowledge their interests! Engaging in authentic conversations surrounding the likes and dislikes of your students is the easy route to solid relationships.Play Together 🏀
As an advocate for play in the classroom, I urge you to join in a class game once in a while. Let them see you laugh — it humanizes you.❤️Talk To Them 🗣️
When behavior issues happen, talk with your students instead of instantly handing out punishments. Give them space to express themselves. It’s tough to keep big emotions bottled up. Let them release. 📢
👉🏾Remember: Respect goes both ways!
