π₯ Fire Safety for Kids: Simple Ways to Practice at Home
Hey parents! October is Fire Safety Awareness Month β the perfect time to help your little ones learn how to stay safe. Fire safety has always been one of my favorite things to teach because itβs packed with playful, physical activities that kids love while learning an important life skill.
Here are a few fun and simple ways to practice at home!
1οΈβ£ Stop, Drop, and Roll π
This timeless phrase is a classic for a reason!
Pretend youβre doing normal activities around the house.
Set a timer, and when it beeps, everyone stops, drops, and rolls.
Make it a game β kids will be laughing and learning what to do if their clothes ever catch fire.
2οΈβ£ Fall and Crawl πΎ
This catchy safety tip is all about staying low to avoid smoke.
Play Little Richardβs Fall and Crawl song (yes, itβs as fun as it sounds!)
Crawl around the house with your child, showing them that smoke rises and the safest way out is close to the ground.
3οΈβ£ Donβt Hide, Go Outside πͺ
Some children instinctively hide when theyβre scared, which can make it harder for firefighters to find them.
Practice this phrase together: βDonβt hide, go outside!β
Talk about where to go if thereβs smoke or fire.
If they canβt get outside, teach them to make themselves seen at a window so firefighters can help.
4οΈβ£ Make an Escape Plan πΊοΈ
Planning ahead saves lives!
Draw a simple escape route for your home.
Pick a family meeting spot outside (like a tree or mailbox).
Practice it together so everyone knows what to do if thereβs ever a real fire.
π Wrap-Up
